Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore is a writer, editor, activist and troublemaker. Most recently, she is the editor of Nobody Passes: Rejecting the Rules of Gender and Conformity (Seal 2007), and an expanded second edition of That’s Revolting! Queer Strategies for Resisting Assimilation (Soft Skull, June 2008).
Mattilda is the author of a novel, Pulling Taffy (Suspect Thoughts 2003), and the editor of Dangerous Families: Queer Writing on Surviving (Haworth 2004) and Tricks and Treats: Sex Workers Write about Their Clients (Haworth 2000), which was translated into Italian (Effepi Libri 2007).
Mattilda's second novel, So Many Ways to Sleep Badly, will be published by City Lights in Fall/Winter 2008. It will hopefully destroy literature.
Mattilda writes regularly for various publications, including the San Francisco Bay Guardian and Bitch, she pens a monthly column in Maximumrocknroll, and she is the reviews editor at the new feminist magazine make/shift, where she also writes a column. Mattilda is currently working on a new anthology, tentatively titled Why Are Faggots So Afraid of Faggots?: Flaming Challenges to Masculinity, Objectification and the Desire to Conform.
Mattilda loves feedback. Her blog is nobodypasses.blogspot.com, and her homepage is www.mattbernsteinsycamore.com
