Ricci J. Levy is a long-time sexual freedom activist and is one of the founders of the Woodhull Freedom Foundation and Federation. After a successful career in corporate America, and as President of R. J. Lev Consulting, Inc., a business consulting firm, Ms. Levy formally entered the world of non-profit advocacy work. As the Executive Director and President of both the Foundation and Federation, she has been instrumental in Woodhull's growing leadership and presence in the sexual freedom movement.
Woodhull was founded to advance sexual freedom as a fundamental human right, capitalizing on a small but growing sexual freedom movement. The objective was to stimulate and organize activism on the broad issues of sexual freedom.
Woodhull's key goals are to change the nature of the debate on sexual freedom, and to act as a convener and coalition builder in the sexual freedom movement. It is Levy's view that sexual identity politics, while absolutely necessary in specific instances, will be largely ineffective in creating long-term political and social change, unless they are integrated into an issues-based approach. In this way, the advocacy of sexual freedom issues will be put into the framework of fundamental ideals central to this country's character - individual freedom to shape ones own life, non-discrimination, freedom of speech and sexual expression, acceptance of differences, compassion for the oppressed and - above all - freedom from intrusion into matters that fall within the right to privacy.
In partnership with The Task Force, Levy was a driving force in establishing a sexual freedom track at Creating Change, the largest annual LGBT political conference in the world. In 2006, under Levy's direction, the first Sexual Freedom Institute was offerered at the conference.
Levy serves on the Steering Committee of the Free Expression Network (FEN) and is on the Advocacy Advisory Committee of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
