To all residents of Indianapolis and Marion County:

After much hard work by fellow blogger Linda Perdue and others, the Indianapolis Human Rights Commission has recommended to the City Council that they add sexual orientation and gender identity to the city's Human Rights Ordinance. This resolution was passed out of committee last Tuesday evening and will be up for a vote in front of the council on Monday, April 25.

If you live in Indianapolis or Marion County it is imperative that you contact your city councilors immediately!
Let them know that you support Resolution 68. Tell them that discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity is wrong. Let them hear your stories of bigotry and assault.

The religious wrong is trying very hard to stop this resolution. The councilors are being flooded with emails and telephone calls from irate evangelicals. Of course, they are twisting the truth and claiming the sky will fall if the resolution is passed. Religious extremist Eric Miller recently wrote to his supporters:

"The government would be granting special rights to homosexuals. Granting legal status and special rights to homosexuals is another step in moving toward homosexual marriages. It is wrong for the government to mandate special rights for the homosexual lifestyle - a lifestyle that many consider immoral."

To contact your representatives, click here. Notice that your city zone councilor is listed at the top, but at the bottom are the at-large representatives. Please make sure to email them also! It's important for these people to hear from us! This resolution would affect us, so they should hear directly from us! Do it today!
