Our Invitation Must've Gotten Lost in the Mail

Friends,

Curt Smith and the Indiana Family Institute are holding a "Restoring Families Rebuilding Communities" banquet at the Marriot Downtown on September 16. The Indiana Family Institute is a branch of the right-wing, anti-GLBT organization Focus on the Family. James Dobson, the founder and chairman of Focus on the Family, is one of the leading national figures supporting the federal marriage discrimination amendment.

The IFI is billing this as a discussion on rebuilding the family in Indiana when, in fact, it is nothing more than a thinly veiled attack on GLBT families. The IFI and Focus on the Family call themselves "ministries" that focus on "family issues" and "child-rearing". In reality, these organizations espouse intolerance and bigotry. Two very prominent Hoosier politicians are giving this fringe organization and it's supporters an air of respectability they do not deserve.

Since IFI forgot to invite Hoosier GLBT families to this "family building" event, Indiana Action Network has decided to correct this oversight by inviting ourselves and the rest of the GLBT community. We may have to stand outside, but we'll be there to represent. After all, if their families and communities need to be rebuilt and restored, perhaps we can give them a few pointers.

We will hold a planning meeting for anyone who is interested on Thursday August 11 at 6:30pm at Boulevard Place Cafe. All interested parties are invited to attend this planning session. Mark your calendars!

If you can't make it or want to give your thoughts, please drop us a line at actionindy@gmail.com

Hope to see you on the 11th!

See you then! I've got an itch that a good picket would scratch... After all, when the KKK shows up in your community, you turn out to show that hate doesn't represent everyone in your community.
