Every Picture Tells a Story

Advance America, arguably the most politically powerful right-wing extremist group in the state of Indiana, recently held a meeting in Sullivan, Indiana to discuss what it describes as "issues of importance" in the upcoming general assembly.[photo] Eric Miller Event

The organization, founded and lead by failed gubernatorial candidate Eric I. Miller, is a 501(c)3 tax exempt not-for-profit educational organization that is expressly forbidden to engage in substantial political activities.

But you certainly wouldn't know it by observing its activities, and as evidenced by the number of Indiana state legislators in these photos, Miller continues to exert his political influence with complete impunity.

All of this has been well-documented by Advance Indiana's Gary R. Welsh, and it remains available as a series on GayIndy.Org.

Welsh also reports that between 1998 and 2003 Miller pocketed more than $1 million in tax-subsidized dollars from Advance America for his salary, legal fees and other benefits.

While I have been told that Welsh was contacted by the mainstream media regarding what should have been a major story, to date nothing has been made of Miller's blatant violation of federal tax laws or his self-dealing.

As a side note, I couldn't help but notice something about these photos: of the approximately ten different people visible in them, each is a middle-aged, white male. No people of color, and no women.

Go figure.
