Channel 6 (WRTV - ABC) has a story out though that does nothing but attempt to put fear into the hearts of Indianapolis residents. Their story is about how sex offenders could have relocated to Indianapolis during the mass exodus of New Orleans. Is it really news when something hasn't happened, but could have happened? After all, Republicans could have moved to Indy but you don't see politicos bemoaning the possibility. People with colds could have moved here - passing on contagious germs and such. I, personally, think that this is nothing more than an attempt at fear-mongering at a time when we should all be pulling together to make these new residents feel as welcome as possible.
INDIANAPOLIS -- Hundreds of Hurricane Katrina evacuees are now living in Indianapolis, and some plan to stay.
While most are welcome here, there is a small group that may not be wanted.
According to Louisiana State Police, there were nearly 4,500 registered sex offenders living in the 14 parishes hit by Katrina.
Many are now living in shelters. Some could be in Indiana now, RTV6's Tanya Spencer reported.
