From the mailbag: Racist email

I just got this email from one of my brothers. It's so inherently racist that I don't even know where to start. It's so embarrassing that this didn't come from some kooky reader or misguided friend. This came from family. The same gene pool that produced me. (Well, actually, he's a half-brother since we have different fathers. I guess that spices up the genetics a bit...) I've left all the capitalization in place - but I couldn't torture you with all the bold face - the whole thing was bold!

I want to respond back to this awful letter. But right now I don't even know what to say, I'm still so irritated by it. Why don't you guys leave some suggestions in the comments? I'll put together a response and post it back here - and I'll use the best ideas from the comments in the letter. The one thing that pops to head automatically is how many crimes/atrocities have been committed by Christians like he lists Muslim terrorist acts.

Here goes. Leave me your thoughts.

CHRISTMAS STAMP

How ironic is this??!! They don't even believe in Christ and they're getting their own Christmas stamp, but don't dream of posting the ten commandments on federal property?

USPS New Stamp

If there is only one thing you forward today.....let it be this!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of PanAm Flight 103!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the military barracks in Saudi Arabia!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the American Embassies in Africa!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on 9/11/2001!

REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM attacks!

Now the United States Postal Service REMEMBERS and HONORS the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a commemorative first class holiday postage stamp.

REMEMBER to adamantly and vocally BOYCOTT this stamp when purchasing your stamps at the post office. To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors.

REMEMBER to pass this along to every patriotic AMERICAN you know

Only one thing needs to be said:REMEMBER and HONOR the 4,154 Muslim members of the active military of the United States of America by never engaging in religious bigotry against them again.

Snopes.com addresses this junk email:http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/eidstamp.asp Yes, there is such a stamp but the email is vicious.

Sadly, I'm sure that I'll receive that e-mail from one or another family member soon enough. When I do, I hope Marla won't mind if I use her words in reply.

Thanks Holly and Marla. I used both of your contributions in my reply. :)

I guess I'm too late to help out, but would love to see what you ended up sending. Geez.. that stamp has been around a few years, I've seen it.. along with the Hannaka, Kwanza, etc etc.. I see the snopes site had all that help. And if we blame the religion of people who create crimes, don't forget that nice Catholic boy, Adolf Hitler.

The USA is a melting pot. There are extremists of all nationalities and religions. I'm not offended in the least by this stamp.
