The Geist community has a local website/newsletter, and there is an aritcle about the infamous Ginny "I will always discriminate" Cain.

It's a warm and fuzzy piece about Cain, who is the Geist area's representative on the Indianapolis- Marion County City-County Council, and it has nothing to do with the Human Rights Ordinance or anything GLBT related. But it might be kind of fun to start submitting comments, which you can do at the bottom of the article.

The comments are moderated, so I doubt seriously that any of our criticisms will show up, but perhaps the editor of this publication ought to know the GLBT community is not so warm and fuzzy about their bigoted city-county councilor.

Fair enough. I sent this comment in:

Councilor Ginny Cain has indeed worked hard to improve the quality of life in Geist. I just wish she were equally willing to improve the quality of life of her gay, lesbian, and transgender constituents. Councilor Cain has been one of the most outspoken opponents of amending the county's Human Rights Ordinance, which would, among many other things, ban discrimination in employment and housing on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. In her words, "homosexuality is an addiction to unhealthy sexual behavior." It is a product, as she sees it, of "Satan," designed to lead to the "destruction of human beings and our civilization."

Wow. I never realized I was an addict and one of Satan's minions. I thought I was a taxpaying citizen, a mother, and someone whose committed same-sex relationship has outlasted many, if not most, heterosexual marriages. I just want to be able to do my job, do it well, and be judged solely on basis of how well I do my job. Isn't that the American way?

This is my letter I posted on the Geist website regarding Ginny "I will never support something that is meant for the destruction of human beings...." Cain.

I think it's wonderful what Ms. Cain has done for the citizens of Geist. But Ms. Cain is living in a glass bubble. There is a whole world outside of Geist, filled with people of diversity. I think Ms. Cain needs to learn to adapt to the world around her and realize that there is a whole group of people who are not going away. The GLBT community is here to stay - they work, live and go to school in Indianapolis. They require the same rights and civil liberties that the rest of the population does. Ms. Cain has said "I will never support something that is meant for destruction of human beings and our civilization." Wow! I didn't know my son wants to destroy civilization. I'll have to ask him how he intends to do that. I suggest Ms. Cain read a few books and get out into the real world.
