Advance Indiana first reported this story yesterday afternoon.
State Senator Patricia Miller (author of the recent "State Authorized Reproduction" bill) has struck again at any GLBT folks within her grasp. When Miller's not advancing her religious agenda in the legislature, she turns to her full-time job to advocate for discrimination. Miller is the Executive Director of the United Methodist Church's "Confessing Movement" sect. This fundamentalist effort is dedicated to repealing all tolerance and civil rights laws. At the heart of the Confessing Movement is an effort to reject the church's acceptance of homosexuality, which the sect declares is "incompatible with Christian teaching." Miller's sect compares homosexuality to idolatry. According to Miller's sect, "just as idolatry brings dishonor to God, so homosexual behavior brings dishonor to the body created for the union of male and female in marriage."
Miller led the charge to have an openly lesbian minister defrocked - and she's succeeded! She also won another victory for intolerance the same day, when the church voted in favor of a minister who refused to allow a gay man to join his congregation.
Why not call Pat and let her know that her religious values don't have a place in government? And let her know that bilerico.com sent you! You can reach her at (317) 232-9489.
