What You Need to Know about Gender Identity and the Law
WHOService providers, legal professionals, public officials, and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied communities are especially encouraged to attend.
WHAT
In December 2005, the city of Indianapolis joined over 80 other jurisdictions nationwide that recognize the fundamental rights of transgender people when it amended its Human Rights Ordinance to include gender identity. This marks a great milestone in the lives of transgender Hoosiers, while also raising questions of how this new law will affect institutions and individuals.
The Indiana Transgender Rights Advocacy Alliance invites you to participate in a forum to address your questions and concerns by providing an overview of the legal landscape for transgender people both in Indiana and nationwide. Our guest presenter is Lambda Legal's transgender rights attorney, Cole Thaler, who will cover transgender law and issues such as employment rights, identity documentation, relationship recognition, and family issues.
