"Moving from silence into speech is for the oppressed, the colonized, the exploited, and those who stand and struggle side by side a gesture of defiance that heals, that makes new life and new growth possible. It is that act of speech, of 'talking back,' that is no mere gesture of empty words, that is the expression of our movement from object to subject -- the liberated voice"
Quote of the day....
The past few weeks have been exceptionally difficult for me as I attempt to figure out what I want my life to look like and how I am going to structure my commitments and efforts for social change. Tonight, I found answers. This quote helped me remember what is important and how our work should be empowering for us and for each other. So with joy in my heart and hope for a better future I want to thank some of the wonderful women in my life who I have seen talk back this past year in multiple inspiring and heartfelt ways
Lori and Vivian - the heart and soul of the transcommunity in Indiana and my inspiration
Annete - for speaking alot and with passion
Melissa - for reminding me that this work shouldn't feel bad and we can do it without being as bad as those whose ideas we are fighting against
