I won my first election yesterday!
Yes, folks...It's official. I was elected as a Democratic Party State Convention Delegate in yesterday's primary election. Believe it or not, I was running against a well known politico, Kip Tew (the former Democratic Party Chair) and beat him by over 200 votes!!
Here are the exact numbers:
STATE CONVENTION DELEGATE 39
Vote For Not More Than 9
(WITH 22 OF 22 PRECINCTS COUNTED)
JASON BORNEMAN. . . . . . . . . 546 - 29.24
JERAME DAVIS . . . . . . . . . 741 - 39.69
KIP TEW . . . . . . . . . . . 580 - 31.07
Total . . . . . . . . . 1,867
The numbers are numbers of votes and then percentage with the total votes cast at the bottom. Pretty cool, huh?
It's a bittersweet win, however, because Bil lost his election. He was running for precinct committee person and lost by 12 votes. He's a little bummed, so send him a note to cheer him up. He says he's just going to blame it on Kris Kiser if anyone asks. *giggle*

Congratulations to Jerame! You'll soon be a big political star! Bring me home a good souvenir from the convention!

if you have a primary voting record of backing the party and aren't known as a raving knave, either party will likely appoint you as a convention delegate. Many delegate slots are unfilled.
Both parties have unfilled precinct committeepeople positions and will gladly appoint you. True, the precinct may not be near your home...

I never said it was a HUGE thing to win...But it IS much more fun to win an election than to be appointed to a position. It only takes one (or a few) person(s) to appoint you, and getting several hundred votes just feels better.
Thanks for the congrats. It's my bit of fun for the day.

Sorry! I didn't mean to downplay your accomplishment of getting elected. I once ran in the Democratic Primary for County Assessor in an intra-party squabble. I didn't campaign or expect to win but I did get many thousands of votes - very satisfying indeed!
My earlier posting was to let others know how to become Convention Delegates or Precinct Committeepeople even if they didn't run on the ballot. It's important for LGBT folk to get involved in the machinery of party politics . . .
