Today State Senate District 31 candidate Russell Brown (D-Indianapolis) announced that he received the endorsement of the state AFL-CIO, a federation of more than 800 local unions throughout Indiana.
"I am so pleased to have earned the endorsement of the Indiana State AFL-CIO," said Brown, "The working men and women of the AFL-CIO are the backbone of our communities and to have their support means a great deal."
Founded in 1955, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is a voluntary federation of 53 national and international labor unions. The Indiana affiliate was formed in 1958 and currently represents over 300,000 working Hoosiers.
"Russell Brown will fight for to make sure that every Hoosier has access to affordable health care, that our children have the best education available and that the rights of all workers are protected," said Ken Zeller, the president of the Indiana State AFL-CIO. "He understands the issues that are important to us and that's why we believe that he will be an outstanding addition to the Indiana State Senate."
In addition to the support of the AFL-CIO, Brown has also been endorsed by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 135, United Steelworkers Local 1999 and the United Autoworkers Region 3.
