Time for some shameless self-promotion. I have a new book out and I'll be doing a reading and signing this Saturday at OutWord Bound Books, starting at 2pm. Out of the Closets and into the Courts explores the promise and limits of litigation as a tactic for advancing gay rights. I had two main questions in writing the book. First, under what circumstances are gay rights claims more or less likely to win in court? Second, what impact does winning or losing in court have on the real lives of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people? To answer them, I studied the legal and political battles surrounding the fight to eradicate sodomy laws, the fight to overturn antigay initiatives, and the fight for marriage equality.

Out of the Closets is an academic book with a gazillion footnotes, but I wrote it to be accessible to the general public and I'm really pleased that OutWord Bound is supporting it. So please join me this Saturday for a reading, some Q&A, and light refreshments at the coolest bookstore in town. Outword Bound is located at 625 N. East Street, just up the street from Aesop's Tables and next to Vic's Coffeehouse.
