Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 18, 7 to 9:30 pm, when a program including a panel discussion, a video presentation, and small group discussions will consider the diversity of families in our country today and their unique issues.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Brian Powell, an Indiana University sociologist who has written extensively about the challenges faced by American families. He's examined the experiences of children who live in biracial, adoptive and same-sex families. The panel will represent three families, a gay couple with a child (myself, Jerame and our daughter), an interracial family, and a transgender person with children (Margeaux May). The video presentation, Family Matters from the series The Way We Live, considers the diversity of family forms and the cultural shifts that are changing the way we look at families.
Indy PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), Indiana Equality Region 8, YAD (Youth and Diversity), and Heartland Interweave of UUI are hosting this Spirit and Place event at Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis, 615 West 43rd St. Call (317) 872-1385 or email with questions or for more information.
