patnell.jpgPatricia Nell Warren, the acclaimed author of The Front Runner, has announced her candidacy for the West Hollywood City Council. A total of ten candidates are running for the three open positions on the council.

Ms. Warren has been an outspoken advocate for gay and lesbian rights for years. She is one of the most respected and popular authors of gay and lesbian literature. Personally, I'm a big fan of her novels.

A few years ago (I'd say about five or six) I e-mailed Ms. Warren a fan letter asking her to sign my copies of her books. She wrote back immediately and we've corresponded ever since. She is an incredibly thoughtful and generous woman that I admire and adore. You can find a copy of the e-mail she sent out announcing her candidacy after the jump.

For years I've been encouraged to run for public office. After careful consideration and discussions with friends and family, I've decided to run for city council in West Hollywood, California. The Front Runner author aims to be a front runner in politics!

Having contributed to West Hollywood life since the early '90s, I'm confident that I can make a creative contribution to the Creative City's future with my long experience as a writer, journalist, commissioner, businesswoman and activist. WeHo faces huge challenges as it nears its 25th birthday -- growing density, urban-style development, affordability of housing, a need to enrich its cultural life. Campaigning starts right after New Year's. The election is March 6.

Your contribution will help me raise the vital seed money to launch my campaign. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by mid-January. Local law limits contributions to $1000, but any amount is welcome! (Couples and partners can contribute up to $2000 as long as they both sign the check.)

If you can help, make your check payable to: Committee to Elect Patricia Nell Warren #1293283. Mail it to me at: 7985 Santa Monica Blvd. #109-408, West Hollywood, CA 90046.

Your contribution will give my campaign a big boost right off the starting blocks, as I seek to take more personal responsibility for my country's future. West Hollywood could be a model for a stronger, more inclusive America.

Please forward this message to any friends or associates of yours who might also support me. And thank you for your support,

Patricia Nell Warren
