Well, color me surprised.
Membership in the Ku Klux Klan in Indiana has soared. I wonder what could be causing that? Hmmmm. Let's think about what hateful, discriminatory laws and attitudes have been floating around the state lately? Hmmmmm.
Could it be homophobia and xenophobia causing the swing?
The Ku Klux Klan, which just a few years ago seemed static or even moribund compared to other white supremacist movements such as neo-Nazis, experienced "a surprising and troubling resurgence" during the past year due to the successful exploitation of hot-button issues including immigration, gay marriage and urban crime, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)...
ADL has identified the following states as being notable for active or growing Klan chapters:
SOUTH: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas
MIDWEST: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio
Looks like I get a prize, eh? Someone ring the bell.
So it looks as if Brent Waltz, Brandt Hershman, Teresa Lubbers and Greg "The Flogger" Walker will have to pat themselves on the back for a job well done. They're "protecting" Hoosier families by encouraging the Klan and taking our few hard earned rights away. History will remember them by the company that they keep.
And when the KKK is taking your side in the argument and increasing their membership based on your actions, well is that a legacy you'd want: "I advanced the Klan!"? Today, 39 State Senators voted with the Klan. Literally.
Welcome to Indiana. Please check your brain drain at the door.
