Allow me the pride and pleasure of introducing bilerico.com's latest arrival, "WordSalad" - our new podcast show!
WordSalad will be a biweekly feature focusing on LGBT issues. I'll be interviewing individuals important to our community about the topics that concern us.
Since it's our first podcast, please feel free to be critical in the comments. Go ahead and tell me what you didn't like - but tell me what you did like too. I don't have a background in radio journalism, so I can use any constructive criticism! If you'd like, tell me who you'd like to see on WordSalad. I'll do my best to accommodate.
In our first WordSalad, I interview Candace Gingrich who shot to national fame when she came out in the mid 90s. Her brother, Newt Gingrich, was the Republican Speaker of the House at the time - 3rd in line to the presidency. Candace, however, is her own person and used her sudden celebrity to become a nationally known gay activist. She is the author of Accidental Activist: A Personal and Political Memoir and was named one of Esquire's "Women We Love" and Ms. magazine's "Women of the Year." We cover several subjects including her sudden fame, her relationship with her family after coming out, her job at HRC, and her plans for while she's in town.
Candace will be speaking at the Indiana Equality "Read the Fine Print" rally on February 19. Come out to the rally and hear Candace talk about equality and marriage. Other bloggers will be doing interviews with Candace later next week, so be sure to look for them. (I'll point them out over here, don't worry!)
So here you go. Enjoy. Critique. And talk to everyone about SJR-7.
NOTE: We are experiencing technical difficulties with how the podcast is delivered from the server. If the player below doesn't work for you, it is because iTunes or Quicktime are not the default plugins for podcasts.
To download the file in Windows, right click and choose Save Target As and then change the mp3 extension to m4a. This is a temporary fix until we can get the stream working properly. Thanks for your patience.
The podcast is now working fine for all browsers and platforms. It should play in the window and/or download properly to your desktop, whichever you decide.
(It works always worked fine on a Mac, yet another reason to switch from Windows.) - Jerame
