Tom Toles brought a tear to my eye. I couldn't help but think of the last military 'welcome home from Iraq' ceremony I saw footage of. I spotted a lesbian I knew in the ranks. She has a devoted significant other who kept the home fires burning, took care of their baby girl, took the cats to the vet, made the car payments, cleaned the gutters, and tried to find ways to communicate her love and support that wouldn't get her sother discharged in a war zone half a world away. Her sother, of course, was not there with the loved ones of the hets in her soldier's unit. They won't get the counseling or support from the military to adjust, either. She can't even buy a lousy pack of gum at the PX.
We as gay people are all too often left to struggle alone by our country when we would not be if we were hets. Thanks to Mr. Toles for standing with us this time.
