"CWA does not tolerate discrimination in any form and this amendment would enshrine discrimination into the state constitution. Further, it would place in jeopardy benefits granted all IU staff such as domestic partner benefits, and at the very least would lead to costly and drawn out litigation while the courts are forced to decide the meaning of 'legal incident of marriage', an undefined phrase included in the amendment. It would also hinder the ability of IU to recruit and retain top talent at all levels and this would hurt both the University and the state. We are pleased that the Faculty council has come out against this amendment and we call on all members of the IU community to do the same and oppose this amendment, SJR7." -- from a press release released yesterday by Communications Workers of America Local 4730 which represents support staff from Indiana University Bloomington and IU North West
