Some of you may know that I am the world's worst vegetarian. I have all of the guilty conscience and none of the follow through... I've noticed though that vegetarians tend to be rather gay-friendly. In fact, I don't think I've ever met a homophobic animal rights activist... Maybe it's that whole "Animals deserve rights. Therefore, so do all humans." point of view...
Over on the PETA blog, they're celebrating the launch of their "Vegetarians make better lovers" campaign. To kick things off, two PETA members decided to choose New Hampshire's Statehouse to advocate for gay rights and vegetarianism. (New Hampshire just became the 4th state in the union to offer civil unions for LGBT couples.) According to the blog, New Hampshire residents reacted well to the kiss-in and they even got some coverage from the Concord Monitor.
As an Indiana resident, I'd love to see something this progressive happen in Indianapolis. Unfortunately, we rarely have PETA actions and every time a gay demonstration occurs a sizable section of the local queer establishment goes nuts. After all, we wouldn't want to offend anyone, eh? Bah.
