Okay--file this under E for ego, or S for Shameless Self-Promotion, but I am pumped!

My most recent book, God and Country: America in Red and Blue is out--it's available through Amazon, and should be in your local Barnes and Noble, Borders, etc.

This is my sixth book, but with the exception of the first (What's a Nice Republican Girl Doing at the ACLU?), they've all been "academic"--i.e. pretty boring unless you are one of the six people in that particular discipline. But this one is different.

The whole idea for this book started with my increasingly frequent sense that I live in a different universe than is occupied by Bush-Cheney, the Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America and the others of that ilk. I took my sabbatical to try and figure out why that was--why do I see a different reality than they do? Why do so many of them define "liberty" as being the "right kind" of Christian? How could they have wholeheartedly supported a war that so obviously threatened to destabilize the world's least stable region? How can they claim that there is no such thing as global warming, and that evolution is a myth? Why does acceptance of gays frighten them so? And what the hell can we do about it?

This book was the result of that research.

Not that I'm pushing or anything, but you can also buy it directly from the publisher, Baylor University Press.
