Eeerrrrr ... gee, Bil, I donno ...

So many times organizations start blogs just to have yet another outlet for their particular brand of "group-think" ...

... and invariably, part of the "group-think" is the old spin, "This Group is just great, it does so many wonderful things, it has no flaws, and nobody in their right mind would ever criticize us. Oh, and the people that we serve and claim to represent would go down the toilet immediately if it weren't for This Group. So be sure to make big donations to This Group 'cause we never waste a penny, and don't even think of making a donation to That Group. Because That Group is trying to muscle in on our turf, and if you donate to That Group, or even say anything nice about That Group, then you are a lying, double-crossing, traitorous smelly ratfink and we will never, ever, ever again let you be a part of our team at This Group."

(Obviously, many of our self-appointed "gay leaders", now well into their middle-age and beyond, are still working out their adolescent resentments for the social abuse they received in high school from the football jocks and the cheerleading squad.)

And I'm sorry to say, that organizational characterization fits HRC to a tee. They spend as much or more effort marketing themselves as they do getting actual work done.

I have at least one friend that thinks HRC is the biggest drain on GLBT community resources that has come along since Stonewall. Personally, I disagree. I think GLAAD is the biggest group of expensive party-throwers outside of Gay Pride itself --- and at least when a Gay Pride group throws a party every June, they are honest with everyone about what it is they are really up to.

So ... by all means, read these organizational blogs --- but be ever vigilant and questioning, and mindful that such blogs are yet another distribution channel coming out of a big, insatiable propaganda machine.
