Anyone who reads this blog knows that I love a good drag performance. It's more than just a good show for me, it's about momentary liberation from the strait-jacket of masculinity and blah.
So maybe that's why I've been listening to this song by Xiu Xiu a lot lately, "Sad Guerilla Pony Girl", in which male lead singer Jamie Stewart sings: "I am your girl and I will protect you." There's just something special about a guy who performs his gender as culturally masculine referring to himself as a "girl". Hmmm... maybe I just need to drag myself down to Talbott Street this weekend.
