Fresh in from the Human Rights Campaign's legislative director:

The 60 vote threshold needed to move to consider the Levin-Reed Iraq amendment to the FY 08 Department of Defense Authorization bill was not reached. After the vote, Majority Leader Reid temporarily pulled the Defense bill from the floor. Right now, we’re working to figure out when the Senate will return to consideration of the DoD bill. While this means that the hate crimes vote has been temporarily suspended, I will be back in touch when I learn more details…

We'll keep you updated as the negotiations on the bill continues.

This gives us more to call our senators and urge them to support the hate crimes bill. The nutty homo-haters on the right have been flooding congressional offices with lies to try and defeat the bill. This is the best chance that we have ever had to pass the hate crimes bill. Please contact your senators today.

Now did the Bill stall specifically because the Hate crimes bill was attached to it.. are there some other things thrown on their that we dont know about? Also how many votes short was it?

Kevin,
The hate crimes bill was attached to the Defense Authorization bill. The bill did not stall due to the hate crimes portion of the bill.

Speaking of hate crime(s):

George W. Bush is a hate-crime criminal.

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

Bush will go down in history in infamy.
