This has to be one of the funniest stories I've come across lately. After John McCain's presidential campaign has taken the "Straight to the Bottom Express," news surfaces that he already has a scapegoat for his floundering. Gee - what could it be?

Could it be his staunch support of a war the majority of Americans don't support? Maybe his blind loyalty to a President that used every dirty trick possible to defeat him in the primaries a few years ago? His sudden suck up to the religious right? How about considering that he's sounded like a pompous ass the past few times he's opened his mouth? Could it be that the "Straight Talk Express" guy has done anything but speak forthrightly? Nah. Let's blame it on the sweaters. After all, they're so gay...

In the final days of his imploding candidacy, John McCain has taken a page out of Richard Nixon's play book, finding increasingly bizarre explanations for his political failures. Strangest of all: He reportedly feels his handlers forced him to wear "gay sweaters."

According to one insider, the knit-picking was the crescendo of a tirade by the Arizona senator, in which he blistered aides about the minutiae of the campaign. While many septuagenarians live in a perpetual state of sweater weather, McCain reportedly declared his frustration with being told to don the perceived homosexual outerwear in order to look younger and more approachable.

Let's review: McCain's campaign manager and chief strategist have both resigned this week or been forced out - depending on who you ask. He's behind the big boys in fundraising. Most Americans consider him a silly joke now instead of a major player.

With all of his anger issues, maybe it's time McCain realized that the sweaters made him look like Mr. Rogers in a steroid rage. And that's just not gay at all.

[UPDATE:] This is what I get for being gone most of the day yesterday and just jumping in with both guns blazing! D'oh! Alex posted on this story yesterday. What can I say? Maybe I just want to be like Alex... *grins*
