Oh, right, I do. But I'm so used to playing scrappy indie-media journalist from my apartment, it's like I'll be entering a different universe to live-blog with the glossy folks at tomorrow night's presidential-candidates forum. Go, Bilerico, for snagging those press credentials! On the eve of the big event, I'm full of questions:
Will they talk about anything other than gay marriage and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"? Do they really expect me to leave my laptop unsupervised for a Homeland Security check? Will I be facile with the blogging software or awash in technical glitches? And what in the world will I wear?* Answers, more questions, and encouragement in the Comments will be much appreciated. (*Not sure you know me well enough to catch my tone here. Oh, right. You know I'm the feminist voice in this party, and of course you know what they say about feminists and fashion ... )

We got press credentials? COOL! Go, Jessica! Ask them why they think equal rights for all is still such a freakin' controversial issue, what will be their first priority as president in a world where racism, sexism, heterosexism, and classism weren't all consuming--and what their priority would be if the isms weren't all consuming.

From Barack Obama’s new ‘Obama Pride’ website:
"While we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we still have a lot of work to do."
Is Obama actually praising an act of violent resistance against the police state? He certainly isn’t condemning the Stonewall riots. Ask him if he would support the modern day use of these tactics to combat sources of queer oppression. Is it okay to attack cops when they raided gay bars in 1969, but not when they arrest, beat, and rape trans sex workers today?
Yes, Barack, we still have a lot of work to do – pick up your bat and I’ll meet you in the streets.

Haha, Nick. I'm thinking that Stonewall will become the gay MLK, praised and washed clean by the powerful and make it seem safe for the mainstream. I'm always surprised when I hear people praising MLK or wondering if he were conservative or making him out to be just about getting rid of legislated inequality without mentioning his borderline socialist politics and large criticism of economic issues. Stonewall seems to be going down the same path.
