It's interesting to note that Ms. "Till Johnny's dancing with me I've got no reason to smile" is a lesbian in real life. Well, not so much "interesting" as "hot". Here's her big, timeless hit, "It's my Party":
And in her own words with AfterEllen:
Well, you know, it’s funny. I just never found it was necessary because I really never kept my life private. Those who knew me, those who worked with me were well aware. And what I actually started doing was, well, for a couple of years now I’ve been hosting [the PBS series] In the Life, and that was just kind of my way of saying, here I am and this is what I feel I should be doing now, and it was sort of a natural evolution for me as opposed to, you know, this great gong in the head.

Back in 1963, "You Don't Own Me" was a big deal - almost one of the first feminist songs to hit the airwaves back then. I was 13 years old and found it in sharp contrast to all the other "white bread songs" on the music scene. Lesley was on her way!!!!
