As we celebrate this Labor Day with our friends and neighbors, let's remember those of us who still aren't protected from discrimination at their places of employment. Only 12 states have laws prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation & gender identity. A further 20 have laws protecting only sexual orientation. That means in 18 states (including my home state of Indiana) it is perfectly OK to be fired for being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. In 38 states it is OK to fire someone for being transgender.

I have been personally affected by my state's lack of protections for LGBT workers. How about you? Have you lost a job after coming out or being outed? Have you suffered discrimination on the job because of your sexuality or gender identity? Share your stories in the comments.
