As if we needed an even more evidence that Republican senator Larry Craig is willing to screw gay men while screwing us over, comes this revelation by a D.C. man that he had sex with Mr. I'm Not Gay.
Via Wonkette (The link is NSFW because David Phillips goes into graphic detail about his hook up with Craig):
One night, Phillips continues, “I followed [Craig] from The Follies to a Capitol Hill neighborhood, parking on the street no telling how far from his house. We walked up the alley and through the back door of a house, with him repeating several times, ‘You were never here. You don’t know me. Right?’ and me responding, ‘Right!’ in boyish submission. As we tiptoed from the back door to the stairs to the upper floor, as if somebody else was home, he turned to grope my crotch and brush my face with his hand.” The house’s decor led Phillips to believe that this was a married man: “The bric-a-brac with family pictures didn’t scream ‘old queen’ to me; it announced a woman’s influence. Still, we made our way upstairs.
The kicker is that this liaison occurred twenty years ago. So that's at least twenty years that Craig has been having sex with other men all the while opposing gay rights legislation at every turn.

Not to spoil everyone's fun, but what proof do we have that this guy is telling the truth? He said that he didn't get Larry's name, but that he recognized his face when he saw him on TV 20 years later and remembered his wife's name. I mean, even if his memory is that good, Larry's changed I'm sure. 20 years is a long time.
And even if his story was better, I'm kinda wondering why this didn't come out before this whole scandal. I'm skeptical.

It may be poetic justice that someone who has been so homophobic all his life should taste the bitterness of being condemned as Gay by his erstwhile colleagues.
But the evidence that he is is basically zero.
Seriously, if someone who was straight and GLB supportive had been entrapped like this, and had a low-life crawling out of the woodwork to gain his 15 minutes of fame by conveniently testifying about a sordid tryst 20 years ago, one he'd never hinted a before, I think the GLB movement would have condemned such an obvious frame-up.
This smells, and pending some actual evidence that there's anything to it, I'll have no part of it. Poetic justice or no, it's wrong.

I agree with Alex. This smells highly of attention-whore. I am highly doubtful that a person could remember to the detail that Mr. Phillips did, a sexual encounter that happened over 20 years ago... embarrassing or otherwise. I read the rest of Mr. Phillips "story" and that little bit where he stumbled on a letter addressed to Craig's wife stinks of embellishment. The whole scene is like it's taken directly out of a "well made play" circa the mid-1800s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Well_made_play if you don't get the reference). And a corny one at that.
