Europe - The New Terror Front? What I said to the BBC.

Suffice it to say, Europe is cheesed-off.
The question put to the guests was "Should Americans be afraid of Europe?"
My response was "no." I think, and most guests agreed, Europe isn't the problem, the Bush Administration is. Chances are I will go my entire life without ever meeting someone from Al Qaeda, however there is a big chance I will be confronted by someone from MS13 - a street gang primarily populated by Hispanics. During the last month in North Carolina there have been four murders by MS13 members for their ritualized initiations. Their modus operandi is to approach an random bystander and ask them for directions, then shoot them in the face.
MS13 is not the only criminal street gang operating in America - we still have the Crips, the Bloods, and the White Aryan Resistance.
Scholars have published study after study pointing to crime being an intersection of poverty and lack of education opportunity. You solve these two things with social programs, not with a War on Drugs or a War on Terror.
MS13, the KKK and Al Qaeda are all progenies of the same problem. However, that problem is not Europe.

Please explain "Shirty Duff" and "Barmy Prat" I don't want to have to go look them up just to get the joke. LOL
I know what a prat is, but not the Barmy persuasion. And, well, I can't really divine a Shirty Duff. Sounds like an ass with three layers of flannel on top.

Shirty - "Don't get shirty with me young man" was what my Dad used to tell me when I was little. He was referring to my response to his telling off for doing some terrible little boy thing. Like tying my brother to the back of Mum's car or putting my shoes in the toilet. It meant I was getting bad tempered.
Duff - Anything that is duff is useless, junk, trash. It usually means that the object doesn't do the job it was intended for. Our last Prime Minister was pretty duff!
Barmy - If someone tells you that you're barmy they mean you have gone mad or crazy. For example you'd have to be barmy to visit England without trying black pudding!
Prat - Yet another mildly insulting name for someone. In fact, this one is a bit ruder than pillock so you probably wouldn't say it in front of Grandma.

a stupid person; these words are used to express a low opinion of someone's intelligence

See, you're totally awesome. I've seriously never heard of shirty or barmy and I've never heard duff used in that particular context. Prat was a gimme, though.
Thanks!
