Gay activists in Southern California are stepping up their efforts to save the historic gay bar Boom Boom Room in Laguna Beach. The bar was closed by billionaire property owner and the 83rd richest person in America Steven Udvar-Hazy. The Boom Boom Room was the oldest gay bar in the Western U.S. having been open for 61 years. Udvar-Hazy wants to tear down the building which houses the bar to build yet another hotel.
Activists will gather at the headquarters of AIG / SunAmerica Tower, 1999 Avenue of the Stars (corner of Avenue of the Stars & Constellation Blvd.), Los Angeles, CA 90067 on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 to ask company CEO Martin J. Sullivan to help resolve the issues. AIG owns International Lease Finance Corporation which Udvar-Hazy runs.
You would think that a billionaire would have better things to do than run around closing gay bars. In this case, I guess we'd be wrong.
