Was there anyone who didn't know about the REM frontman?
"It was super complicated for me in the '80s," he tells Spin. "I was totally open with the band and my family and my friends and certainly the people I was sleeping with. I thought it was pretty obvious."
I sure thought it was. I put up a Queer Music Friday last October with Stipe, and I didn't think twice about the fact that he apparently wasn't out.
So no pink cupcakes. It doesn't count.

Alex, honey, I hate to break it to you, but this is such old news! EVERYONE knows that Michael Stipe and Billy Corgan were a hot ticket item in the 90's. And if the long skirts and eye make-up weren't a dead giveaway, the "FIGHT AIDS" T-shirts should have been a tip off. Stipe has never denied his sexual orientation, but he also doesn't talk about it very often, because he's a very introverted person who doesn't talk about himself much, period. When R.E.M. first started, Stipe wouldn't even stand in front of the band. He would hide behind Bill Berry with his back to the crowd. He was THAT shy.
Thanks for giving a shout out to one of my favorite fags, though. They have a new album coming out next month. How excited am I?

Serena's right, as always.
This is so old hat not even my great grandmother would wear it.
Almost since the band started there was talk about him being gay. I am not a big fan of their music, though I do like some of their songs.
