However, we must be careful to not make ableist connections with silence. Being deaf is not something that is a bad thing. Silence is not the act of not being able to hear--it is the lack of recognition and erasure that marginalized people face on a daily basis.

The point is that our combined silence on this day can be deafening. It can speak loud volumes when we come together in silent, peaceful protest.
