Let the flip flopping continue!
John McCain has rejected the endorsement of fundie-favorite Pastor John Hagee after the pastor was "discovered to have made some derogatory comments about Jews". This comes after McCain actively sought out Hagee's endorsement for a little rightwing fence-mending and pandering. Said McCain:
Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well.
Really, John McCain? You're just now discovering Hagee said some horrendous things? Ever heard of google or youtube? Well guess what, McCain- the Jews aren't the only group Hagee hates- he thinks gays caused hurricane Katrina and pretty much hates everyone.
Let's refresh McCain's memory, shall we?
Here are some of Hagee's greatest hits:
On Gays-
All hurricanes are acts of God, because God controls the heavens. I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they were recipients of the judgment of God for that. The newspaper carried the story in our local area, that was not carried nationally, that there was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came. And the promise of that parade was that it would was going to reach a level of sexuality never demonstrated before in any of the other gay pride parades.
... I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans.
On Harry Potter-
As millions of people anticipate the release of the latest Harry Potter book and film, we're reminded once again of Satan's ongoing attempt to deceive and destroy. The whole purpose of the Potter books is to desensitize readers and introduce them to the occult.
On Islam-
Islam in general -- those who live by the Koran have a scriptural mandate to kill Christians and Jews.
On Jews and the Holocaust-
God says in Jeremiah 16: 'Behold, I will bring them the Jewish people again unto their land that I gave to their fathers. ... Behold, I will send for many fishers, and after will I send for many hunters. And they the hunters shall hunt them.' That would be the Jews. ... Then God sent a hunter. A hunter is someone who comes with a gun and he forces you. Hitler was a hunter.
On Catholics-
This is the Great Whore of Revelation...
Well, at least Hagee is an equal opportunity hater.
I don't even know where to begin with this. There is just so much crazy fundie, pandering, flip-flopping dirt to dig into!
First, the fact that McCain, who decried people like Hagee as "Agents of Intolerance" in the past, sought his endorsement in the first place is disgusting. His need to kiss up to the religious right to win his party's nomination was the most important thing to him.
One has to wonder what kind of inept campaign McCain is running that they couldn't even do a basic online search and find Hagee's rantings. Or perhaps they didn't care.
Then to stand by the endorsement for months, after the media slowly began to report on Hagee, showed his desperation to connect and "rebrand" himself as a champion of the conservative movement. He even went on a photo-op trip to New Orleans when Hagee was on the radio confirming he thought God had wiped it out because of the gays.
And now we have McCain breaking up with Hagee but only after anti-Semitic remarks surface. I guess the gay/Catholic/Islamic/Kids Book-hating was okay.
What a strong moral compass McCain has. It looks like the "Straight-Talk Express" has derailed.
And just for fun, here's a video of McCain and Hagee put together by Talking Points Memo:

The Harry Potter quote is by far my favorite! But that's because I'm one of the pagans who thinks there's nothing wrong with the Occult.

As someone who happens to be both transgender and Jewish, I'm glad to see that Hagee has finally been "outed" for his true face.

I love it. The gays raise a ruckus for his offensive homophobic remarks. Nothing.
The Catholics raise a ruckus for his offensive statements and Hagee makes a mealy-mouthed apology.
The Jews raise a ruckus for his offensive anti-Semite statements and finally John McCain notices.
If that's what it takes to get McCain's attention, what happens when something even more serious (terrorist strike, nuclear missiles, bio warfare, economic drops, etc) happens? Will those examples have to knock three times before McCain pays attention?

Bil, it is just the desperate attempts of a confused man to try and find someone to vote for him. He needs the haters to even come near to winning. It will be a wonderful issue to use--later--and it will be.
Now Hillary will have to cast out a minister! Both Obama and McCain have done it. She is not one to allow for any gaps, and she must continue to demonstrate that she is ready and prepared on day one to cast out evildoers!
This is like a reality cartoon.

I agree with Robert in Comment #3 --- it is very gratifying to see a Fundie-Nut discredited by a person of substantial influence and authority (such as he is) for having "gone too far" --- without the Fundie-Nut having been caught in a sex scandal, even!
There are also passages in Jeremiah that can be interpreted to suggest that either nuclear or biological war, or both, will take place in the Middle Eastern lands. Watch for these "Men of God" to quote these passages as they call for the US to nuke Iran --- they will probably make these insane remarks sometime within the coming months--- that's my guess.

Allen, it is already laid out in Mersheimer's book "The Israel Lobby, and United States foreign Policy." That is only part of the mind blowing significance of that book.
