[EDITOR'S NOTE:] Guest blogger Valerie Weck is a doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology program at Indiana State University.

I am conducting a study of the identity intersection experiences of men and women living in Indiana who self-identify as gay or lesbian and who are involved with an organized faith group. The objective of this research is to better understand participants' experiences of their sexual identities, their religious identities, and the intersection of these identities.

I would like to request your participation in an on-line survey, which asks a variety of questions about identity, feelings about identity, and faith group experiences. It is expected to take about 10-15 minutes to complete this survey.

This study is open to anyone who:

  • is at least 18 years of age AND

  • self-identifies as gay or lesbian AND

  • is involved with an organized faith group AND

  • resides in the state of Indiana

If you choose to participate in this survey, no personally identifying information is required and the researcher will make no further contact with you, unless you explicitly agree to follow-up contact and provide your contact information.

I hope you will take a few minutes to complete this survey. Also, please consider forwarding this information to anyone whom you feel might be interested in participating. Without the help of people like you, research on gay and lesbian issues could not be conducted. Your participation is voluntary and there is no penalty if you do not participate.

The survey may be accessed by following this link.

If you have any questions or concerns about completing the questionnaire or about participating in this study, you may contact me at (618) 553-4080 or at vweck@mymail.indstate.edu. You may also contact my faculty supervisor, Michele Boyer, Ph.D. at (812) 237-7693 or mboyer@isugw.indstate.edu. If you have any questions about your rights as a research subject, you may contact the Indiana State University Institutional Review Board (IRB) by mail at Indiana State University, Office of Sponsored Programs, Terre Haute, IN 47809, by phone at (812) 237-8217, or by e-mail at irb@indstate.edu. This study (IRB # 8149) was approved by the IRB on April 11, 2008.
