The first-ever LA Social Forum is this weekend! Inspired by the concept of the World Social Forums, this local event will bring together community workers active on issues ranging from environmental justice to queer liberation, immigrants' rights to action against all wars.

I'll be co-facilitating a participatory discussion on the links between independent media and grassroots action and attending as many workshops and strategy sessions as I can. More info at www.lasocialforum.org. (Details on the media-and-action workshop after the jump.)

Media, Action, and Social Justice: Let's Talk!

Saturday, June 28, 2008
Session W3, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Room THH 213
Los Angeles Social Forum

Join us to talk about the relationship between social-justice-oriented independent media and grassroots action. This participatory discussion will be a space to explore together how media makers and other community workers collaborate toward social justice. What works well? What's hard? How can we collaborate better? Bring your experiences, questions, and ideas. This workshop will center the voices and work of women and trans people of color who are active in local, volunteer-centered media and action. All are welcome to attend and participate. This workshop is co-presented by make/shift, the Downtown Women's Action Coalition, LOUDmouth, and CureThis.
