Although I live about as far away from California as a person can be (in South Florida),
watching the news coverage last night of couples getting married made me feel like I was right beside them.
My partner and I sat on the couch watching the streaming coverage and photos coming in as Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon finally married each other after over 50 years. Seeing the joy on their faces, and the cheering of the crowd around them, I couldn't help but feel pride well up in my chest. My partner and I pulled each other closer, looked at each other and laughed as we saw the tears streaming down our faces.
We can debate about the institution of marriage or talk about how important it is in the big picture. One thing we can't debate, however, is the sheer joy in the faces of those getting married. Whatever you think of the marriage equality fight, whether you choose to marry or not, you can't help but feel happy for all the couples sharing their love and commitment with one another.
We can all share, no matter where we are or what we believe, in the unbridled happiness of two people who love each other. All I can feel is Pride.

God, I thought I was the only one that bawled at weddings! Even watching on TV! Or sappy Lifetime movies, or . . . well, you get the idea!
I have to say that I teared up watching the coverage of Del and Phylis Monday night. That was beautiful.

As I sat and went through all of the pictures from our marriage photo albums, there were several times I choked up while reading the caption or just imagining being there for such a special time in these couples' lives.
