One of the questions I've been asking a lot of our contributors for the Better Know a Contributor series is this: What's your favorite thing to do in the summertime? For me, it's backyard BBQs with friends, tasty margaritas, and boogie boarding at the beach. (In fact, I'll stretch my beach days clear into December if I can get away with it!) I'm also a fan of the tank tops, short skirts, and flipflops.
How about you? How do you spend the summer? Are you trying to beat the heat, or are you soaking up the sun?

Serena,
I'm originally from where you are right now, Arizona. What I used to do in the summer living there is not something I can do here. I loved tubing down the Salt River, hopping rocks up Oak Creek, or enjoying Sedona, visiting Flagstaff and camping out by Lake Mary. I even did some of that after I started my transition.
Here in Georgia, summer means I can wear less clothes and semi-revealing tank tops when I go to the Lesbian nightclubs, assuming I can get time to do that. My house eats my money and to bring in more to keep afloat, I do overtime on the weekends. And now, I don't even like to drive into Atlanta because of the horrendous road construction projects and the high price of gas. So really, summer means nothing to me. That could change if someone special came into my life.

oh, my favorite thing to do in summer is to sit out on the back porch, cold beverages, and great food.
long, lazy talks about nothing in particular.
I will sit in the sun till I'm burnt to a crisp. I love the warmth, the intensity- it's almost a challenge to me.
at night? sex with a lot of sweat. mmm mmm mmm. dont' mess with a/c unless it's about sleep.
I love summertime. I love the heat.

I'm in Afghanistan right now. It's hot and dusty. No beach or back porch to enjoy. Late evening and early morning aren't too hot, though, so it's nice to sit outside. Especially after work hours when the uniform can come off and comfortable clothes can go on.

Sitting on the front porch in the breeze watching the neighbors do yard work and their kids play. Doing my own yard care - especially taking care of the flowers.

Surprisingly cool summer here. I'm pretending like I'm on a super-long vacation in Paris!
