Lock the doors, batten down the hatches, and cover your kid's eyes- Waymon's back!
After a bit of a long delay (okay, a REALLY long delay), I'm back home and getting back to work. As many of you know, I have been on an extended honeymoon after my San Francisco nuptials. It has been quite a long, fun road trip with my new husband- and I got to meet lots of great members of the Bilerico family along the way.
To begin with, our wedding out in San Fran was wonderful (you can see some pictures of our wedding day here). It was a moment that I'll keep in my heart forever. We were also in town at the same time as Pride weekend (an experience to behold, I assure you). While there I ran into contributor Lane Hudson (who snapped a fun pic of me and my hubby on our wedding day). I also had the pleasure of meeting frequent guest poster (and all around fabulous lady) Lena Dahlstrom.
We got home from California and only had a day to pack for our honeymoon- a two and half week road trip/camping trip. We packed up the car, piled in with our puppies, and hit the road. Our first stop was in North Georgia at Cloudland Canyon State Park, where we tent camped and hiked for three days. It was a beautiful, romantic time with just the two of us enjoying nature. The days were filled with hiking and mountain climbing and the nights spent by the campfire playing cards and roasting s'mores.
And before you sharpen your comment pens- yes, I love camping and hiking and all those rather butch things. I even didn't do my hair for over a week! Yikes! Just because I hike in heels doesn't make it any less butch...
Our next stop was in Kentucky at Frozenhead (seriously, I didn't make that name up...) State Park. It was more hiking and camping fun. We even met another gay couple that was camping there! You never know where you'll find family! I will say that this is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever been too. The waterfalls, the rivers, and the mountains were just what this Florida boy needed for some relaxation.
We made a quick stop while in Kentucky at my sister's home. You might recall that I helped my sister move her family cross-country from Idaho to Kentucky while blogging about being "gay across the USA." It was great spending time with my sister (who had broken her ankle trying to hang a porch swing... See? I'm not the only clumsy one!). It was also great seeing my brother-in-law and my AMAZINGLY beautiful niece, Mikalah. There is something really special about sharing time with family.
After a short family reunion, we headed to our end destination- Indianapolis. My partner Anthony had a law professor conference there, which is what we built our trip around. It was both of our first time in Indy and we had a really great time!
The highlight of the trip was definitely meeting the King and Queen of Bileirco (I'll let you decide who is who...), Bil and Jerame! It was great finally being able to sit down and chat with the two of them after only being online friends. We also later had the pleasure of a pizza summit with contributors Marti Abernathey, Monica Roberts, and one of our favorite commenters, Polar. We had a great time eating pizza, cracking dirty jokes (seriously, Marti is like my dirty soul-sister), and just enjoying each other's company.
After 5 long days in Indy, we had to head home and back to reality. We did decide to stop on the trip home and hike in Kentucky again at the beautiful Carter Caves State Park. We also stopped for a fun night out in Lexington. Let me tell you, if you have never been out in Lexington, Kentucky, you've never lived. Everyone at the Bar Complex in downtown was so kind to us and truly made us feel welcomed. So thanks to all the bluegrass guys and gals who took us under their wing!
All in all, we have had an amazing vacation. It was fun, romantic, exciting, and everything a vacation and honeymoon should be!
So now it's back to work! I'll do my best to jump back in with both feet and get back to stirring up trouble here on the Project!
