Shoe Fairy action, that is...
Neil Patrick Harris, the Emmy-nominated out star of "How I Met Your Mother" and old school "Doogie Howser, MD", is bringing some musical gaiety to Sesame Street. And you thought Feist wailing on the kids show was fun! It seems the subversive "gay agenda" on PBS that Serena and I uncovered continues.
Harris plays a singing "Fairy Shoe Person" (I know, I know, that's supposed to be MY nickname) on the long running kids show. Looks like Bert and Ernie aren't the gayest thing on the show anymore...
More Fairy Fun and the video clip after the jump...
Said Harris on AfterElton.com:
"Not the shoe fairy - the fairy shoe person. It's quite a different connotation. I was asked by Sesame Street to be a part of a song and I just leapt at the opportunity. Jim Henson was the only person I ever wrote a fan letter to as a kid and I'm a wild fan of puppets and the Henson Company in general. They wrote a song, wanted me to sing it. There are all these different mythical characters this season. Sandra Oh plays another type of fairy that Abby Cadabra creates and so we got to do this big musical number with puppets and dancing. It was a great, great afternoon. It's one demographic that I have yet to win over."
Harris has been great since coming out publicly in 2006 (he had long been out and partnered in his personal and theater life). The long-time musical theater actor has really been flexing his musical chops lately as well. He has joined up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Josh Whedon to star in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, a rather insane musical web series that is a must watch for all you geek-types like me.
So keep singing, Neil Patrick Harris! We need more fairies like you in the world!
Here's the Sesame Street Preview video. Enjoy!!

And he's still cute too! I had such a crush on Doogie Howser... He was the first "blogger" - although he didn't publish it online. Remember all that typing out his journal on the computer at the end of each show? :)
