Anyone who knows me at all won't be surprised that my music tastes change a lot, but are always marked by an obsession with a certain artist, band, song, or type of music that can last for as long as a year or just a few days. The last month or so I have been listening to a mix on my iTunes and my iPhone, I titled Emo Boy Mix. I was recently told that I was misusing the word Emo, but didn't really care. So below is my list of the ten best depressed boy songs that are dominating my iMusic world.

- Grapevine Fires - Death Cab For Cutie
- Love and Some Verses - Iron and Wine
- Talking Bird - Death Cab For Cutie
These bands particularly Aqualung, The Postal Service, Death Cab For Cutie and Iron and Wine are new to me so I can't get enough of them right now.

Despite mainly being into obscure punk and indie, I am obsessed with the Eurovision Song Contest and people tend to be surprised by the amount of trivia I can share on it. So I'm into a whole bunch of stuff that I discovered through that, like Athena, the Turkish band who should've won it in 2004, or Verka Serduchka, the Ukrainian drag queen who entered a ludicrous dance track featuring an accordion last year.

Bruce, I love Iron & Wine! Have you heard Calexico? They've got a really similar sound. I think you'll like them.
I've been listening to a lot of NPR lately, rather than my iPod. I love "Marketplace" and "The World." The story about Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae this week made me shit my pants. Are you kidding me? The government agencies that underwrite home mortgages are broke? Damn!

Geez. What IS the majority of my music taste? I'll listen to classical, industrial, classic rock, modern rock (formerly alternative), world music, ambient, electronica, club, gothic -- anything but country, rap and pop tarts.
I was very disappointed with the Killers' latest (most impressed by their first). Most recent fave band was probably the Tea Party, although U2 circa Pop (more revolutionary than it will ever be credited for) and Bowie circa Outside (industrial + lounge music = ?!?) remain up there. And Radiohead (aren't they 'out' yet?).
I miss guitar gods. There are no new guitar gods. We still have Clapton, Santana and Neil Young, but it's become a lost art. U2 ushered in an age of rhythm and understatement. Jagori Tanna (I Mother Earth) and Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar, Shady Grady) could have reached that plateau, but the music industry is so not there right now.
Incidentally, you might know this, but Ben Gibbard fronts both The Postal Service and DCFC. (Transatlanticism remains one of my favorites -- such incredibly profound lyrics that you rarely get nowadays.)

I have the not-so-new Alanis Morissette's 10-year-anniversary Jagged Little Pill all-acoustic remake on repeat. I'm sure we all know the songs....
