Will he be the next Greg Louganis?
Only time will tell. Meanwhile, Matthew Mitcham is the openly gay Australian diver who scored a colossal upset of the heavily favored Chinese divers in the very last round of dives in the finals. Mitcham got off to a wobbly start in springboard diving and failed to get to the finals. But in platform, his specialty, he just seemed to get better and better as he went through the rounds.
The commentators noted his beautiful style. In the finals, Mitcham hovered towards the top of the rankings, and finally nailed a 112.10, which means that the judges gave him 10s and 9.5s across the board. This dive exploded him into the lead.
On the women's team-player front, we scored two more golds as Norway beat Russia 34-27 in the handball finals. Lesbian Katja Nyberg was one of the two top scorers. Her partner, Gro Hammerseng, is team captain.

Outstanding!
I watched Matthew in the Prelim's and was amazed as each dive just seemed to get better and better. It was as if you could actually feel him becoming more focused as each round progressed. I knew gold was his color!
