Gov. Charlie Crist has selected Charles Canady to sit on the Florida Supreme Court, filling the vacancy left by Justice Raoul Cantero III.

According to WMNF Radio:

Canady, a former GOP congressman, is best known as being among those who prosecuted President Bill Clinton in the 1999 Senate impeachment trial. He later served as general counsel to Gov. Jeb Bush and defended Bush's school voucher program, which let children from failing public schools switch to private schools at taxpayers' expense.

John Stemberger, president of the Florida Family Action, the organization behind Amendment 2, which would ban same-sex marriage in Florida, called Canady one of the finest judges in the state, and said Crist should be "applauded and thanked for his outstanding selection."

Crist once again showed that he is not the "live and let live" moderate he claims. His support of Amendment 2, flip-flops on off-shore drilling, dangerous tax plans, and now his choice of this ultra-conservative, partisan judge for the Florida Supreme Court shows exactly where Crist's values lie.
