Openly gay candidate for the Democratic nod in Colorado's 2nd district Jared Polis just won his primary against two other wonderful Democratic candidates. Congratulations to him.
It's a fairly Democratic seat left open by Mike Udall's Senate run this fall, and the Republican being offered up as a sacrificial lamb doesn't have much chance from what I read. By all accounts, this is the big election there, and he's very likely to be in the Congress this fall. It'll make him the first gay man to win a seat in Congress out of the closet in his first run, the second LGBT person to do so, and the sixth LGBT person in Congress ever.
His politics seem pretty good from what I read of his stands on Iraq, immigration, the FISA, and civil rights. Polis was just endorsed by ActBlue (they didn't take a stand on the primary because Polis's challengers were progressive as well), and I would imagine he'd be a great Representative relative to the others who are already in the House.

The interesting part is that Polis is millionaire from Colorado and has used his cash for progressive issues.
Another Colorado gay millionaire, Tim Gill, of the Gill Foundation, opposed Polis in favor of another primary candidate, and he spent a lot of his cash countering Polis'.
It wasn't that long ago that Colorado was being boycotted, ya'll.
