A small grouping of links that I found interesting, but haven't had time to blog about:
- When I got the press release yesterday morning announcing that GLAAD and the Commercial Closet were merging, the first thing that stuck out to me was the line, "As part of this transition, founding executive director Mike Wilke is leaving the organization." It sounded like he was fired. Turns out he was fired, but no one told him. Wilke found out just like I did; he read the press release.
- The Bay Area Reporter quotes guest blogger Robin Tyler swearing. Boston's Edge ♥ Alex. The Guardian (UK) gave me an extra L for my name and a position I don't have.
- Fascinating post on gays and Dancehall music. Think Log Cabin Republicans had it bad?
- New York City's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center has video from last night's Prop 8 protests.
- Interested in knowing more about who's behind the Join The Impact site and national protests? That would be Amy Balliett
So what have you got to share that we haven't covered yet? Leave it below so we can all see...

· A doctor in Germany may well have cured AIDS with a bone marrow transplant from a donor natural immunity. Unfortunately however the requirements of bone marrow transplants prevents this from being a viable treatment for most people, even if proven successful. I also found it interesting that this may well explain a previous case where a patient appears to have been cured following a transplant years ago, but at the time natural immunities weren’t yet understood so it’s impossible to know for sure.
· Barack Obama quietly sought out and met with Bishop Gene Robinson three times during the election race to discuss what it was like to be a “first.”
· Equaility Utah is asking the LDS church to act on their comments that they are not anti-gay by supporting new bills promoting equal rights for LGBT people in Utah.
· Patrick Sammon, president of the Log Cabin Republicans, has announced plans to resign.
· Silverton, Oregon has elected Stu Rasmussen mayor. Rasmussen describes himself as an open transgender and “a dude …a heterosexual male who happens to look like a female.”
On the lighter side:
· Isaiah Washington blasted Grey’s Anatomy for the homophobia they showed by releasing Brooke Smith who played a lesbian character. Grey’s Anatomy reports that the change was for other reasons and that more lesbian/bisexual characters are in the works.
· Ted Haggard and Mark Foley chose to do interviews this week. Haggard suggests that the religious community missed an opportunity to demonstrate their Christianity by supporting him, and others, during a crisis. Foley says it wasn’t like he was messing around with young children. Apparently Larry Craig is having trouble raising money for his defense fund so far coming in at around $4.6K.
· In case you haven’t heard Lindsey Lohan has an unnamed girlfriend. While Lohan told Bazaar that she definitely wasn’t a lesbian she might, perhaps, be bisexual.
Oh, I also forgot that the LDS church made the news this week because of their practice of baptizing dead people into the Mormon faith. In this case, specifically, Jews who had suffered through the Holocaust. Though a deal of sorts had previously been struck between representatives of the two faiths, observations suggest that the Mormons are not keeping to their part of the bargain leading to a public rift.
