The recent explosion of gay protests now includes more than anger over the passage of Prop. 8. Truth Wins Out (TWO) teamed up with the Gay Liberation Network to protest the induction of hate-monger James Dobson into the Radio Hall of Fame.

TWO founder and longtime activist Wayne Besen had this to say about Dobson:

To LGBT people, Dobson is a dangerous demagogue who has repeatedly dehumanized our very existence. He has lied about our lives, distorted science to back his falsehoods and peddled destructive stereotypes. Dobson has lobbied to pass anti-gay laws, divided families in the name of family values and said that allowing gay people to marry will "end the earth."

More than 500 people attended the lively protest which colorfully drew the connection between the anti-gay hate speech regularly spouted by Dobson and the shameful passage of Prop. 8 in California.

Thanks for running this. Wayne Besen and Michaelangelo Signorile are my favorite male gay activist. Can't wait to see the eruption in New York tonight with Whoopie Goldberg. We are galvanized as a community, at last, at last.

Wayne is a friend from when we worked together at HRC. He is an amazing activist.

I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Michelangelo, but he has definitely been an inspiration since his days with ACT UP and Queer Nation.

I've met them both and they're both equally impressive in person. (And Wayne's a looker too!)

I really wish I could have gone to this protest.

Excellent.

Now we have to go after another bigoted superstition driven opponent of same sex marraige: the one who's going to be inaugerated on January 20th: the one named Obama.

Right because somehow magically you would have been better off with McCain/Palin? Or did you enjoy the last 8 years of Bush, or how about Clinton and his don't ask, don't tell policy. Obama has been the most progressive presidential candidate when it comes to gay rights. Get you head out of the sand. Oh btw I know that this is the big push right now but believe it or not there are also other pressing issues in the gay community that are being ignored to push this.

"Get you head out of the sand." Right body part. Wrong location.

Where does all this personal venom come from? Are you still angry because you thought I was talking about Monica Helms and Clinton when I was really taking about Monica Lewinsky and Clinton.

If that’s it get over it. That was your mistake. There are lots of Monica’s in the world, but only one of them ‘didn’t’ have sex with slick Willie.

Stick to politics. Lose the personal attacks.

And now on to those politics.

Do you have a clue how offensive this statement is;

“So, you loss the right to get married in California. It's an important right to fight for, especially since California HAS ALL THE OTHER DAMN RIGHTS MANY OF US DON'T. Gee. There is a point when my sympathy is taxed to the limit. LGBT people are still getting FIRED from their jobs here in Georgia and many other states for just being who we are. Please. Forgive me if I don't shed a tear for your "loss."

Do you really think that our nationwide outrage at the bigots’ is a 'pity party'? Please don't carry signs like that at the Nov. 15th anti-prop 8 demos, or if you do I hope you can muster the decency to walk over to pro-8 counter demo and join the christians who also believe our outrage is a ‘pity party’.

Ah, I have probably read about 1/1000th of what you write because it is nothing but negativity. I have read your comments so few times and you never had anything good to say that I learned to ignore you. So, if you said anything abut Clinton and Monica L., I never read it.

Point by point.

Right because somehow magically you would have been better off with McCain/Palin? The differences are cosmetic at best.

The stock market's whipsawing down, personal saving has stopped, credit is tight, Obama's bailout is being wasted buying the worthless debt of failed companies, unemployment is soaring and the economy is beginning to contract, to feed on itself.

And Obama’s solution?

To convene a panel of the same retards who got us into this mess. They included Warren Buffet, an economic and the CEOs of Xerox, Time-Warner, Hyatt, and Google and two of Clintons former treasury secretaries, both hard core, pro-business retards. And a few more of the ‘usual suspects’. Obama pointedly refused to invite the AFL-CIO or consumer advocates like Nader. Obama, having championed Bush’s giveaway $700 billion giveaway is going to continue the bipartisan policies of Carter, Reagan, the Bushes and Clinton.

He plans to continue the war.

Or did you enjoy the last 8 years of Bush, or how about Clinton and his don't ask, don't tell policy. No, and I won’t enjoy more of the same even with a few fig leafs to placate the gullible. And I wonder why he has two of the three authors of DADT, Colin Powell the war criminal and bigot and Sam Nunn the bigot on board.

Obama has been the most progressive presidential candidate when it comes to gay rights. How is his bigotry progressive? Please, explain.

Get you head out of the sand. I was just going to say that, but you beat me to the punch.

Oh btw I know that this is the big push right now but believe it or not there are also other pressing issues in the gay community that are being ignored to push this. That's sectarian. An excuse to avoid the fight when and where it occurs because it's not 'pure' enough.

And it's shortsighted. Anything that mobilizes huge numbers of people is a good thing, not something to be scoffed at. If it's not too taxing consider if the activist networks formed around this will come in handy when the GLBT left launches campaigns around hate crimes, an inclusive (that is to say not a Democrat) version of ENDA and other issues.

Same sex marraige is not my priority either, but it's a simple question of solidarity. When one of us is attacked all of us are attacked.

"We must hang together, ...else, we shall most assuredly hang separately." Benjamin Franklin

As a former broadcaster (radio), I'd like to know how in the fuck did Dobson wind up as a nominee in the first place? He's not a broadcaster in the first place, just a homobigot with a bible.

If they ever have an exhibit for FOTF, they can save the expense and just name a toilet in the men's room after Dobson.
