The 2008 Weblog Awards are opening up today, and I wanted to draw everyone's attention away from the "Best LGBT Blog" category for a minute and to a few of the other categories that have cool people up in them.

Contributor Dana Rudolph (Mombian) is up in the "Best Large Blog" category. Rod McCullom (Rod 2.0) is up in the "Best Midsize Blog" category. Reader Zoe Brain (A.E. Brain) is a finalist in the "Best Australia or New Zealand Blog" category; we have enough non-Aussies on this site that we should be able to help her out there.

They're the only three LGBT blogs I know of who have been nominated outside of the "Best LGBT Blog" category, and, if you're not already voting for someone else in those categories, be sure to give them some voting love this next week. We've got to help the community out!

Storm Bear's also up for Town Called Dobson in the "Best Comic Strip" category. His comics have been in the middle column for over a year now, helping make TBP what it is today.

Friend-of-the-site Melissa McEwan (Shakesville) is up for "Best Liberal Blog." She's known Bil from before The Bilerico Project was launched and has been an inspiration for this site.

Josh Fruhlinger (The Comics Curmudgeon) is up in the and "Best Humor Blog." He's the guy who makes fun of the comics every day, and I've been reading him for years now. He usually has me laughing until I'm crying, so I hope he wins in the humor category!

**Updated to put in the links to go vote! Please help our friends win!

Congrats to contributors Pam Spaulding and Monica Roberts, once again, for their nominations in the "Best LGBT Blog" category. It's also great to see Andres, Joe, and Bruce, all of whom I've had some contact with since I've started blogging, and they all seem like cool people. I just discovered this girl called automatic win because she was also nominated, and her site's great!

May the best blog win!
