Congratulations to Andy Towle and his team at Towleroad for winning the 2008 Weblog Awards Best LGBT Blog. We finished in 2nd place again this year after a last moment surge moved us past last year's winner, Joe.My.God.
Contributor Pam Spaulding's Pam's House Blend finished in 4th place. Pam won the award in 2005 and 2006 and didn't really promote the awards contest after hackers briefly took down her site earlier last week. Contributor Monica Roberts' TransGriot was also nominated. Storm Bear's Town Called Dobson was nominated for Best Comic Strip and Dana Rudolph's Mombian was up for Best Large Blog.
We've accomplished quite a bit in our year and a half together. Being nominated two years in a row for the largest blog award is an honor unto itself and the extra exposure a nomination alone brings is priceless. (Almost 32,000 ballots were cast - each voter saw "The Bilerico Project" as a best queer blog nominee. We got almost 25% of the vote. Over 2000 new readers came to check us out for the first time via the awards site alone.)
There really is a Bilerico family. We squabble, we compliment, complain, fight, make-up, argue, love and support each other. Thanks - not just for your votes - but for being a part of our large dysfunctional family. We may have won second place, but Projectors are a first-rate group of folks.
