Congratulations to Bilerico-Florida contributor Anthony Niedwiecki for winning an endorsement by the Victory Fund for his Oakland Park City Commission race! Anthony is a professor and administrator at the law center at Nova Southeastern University where he teaches employment discrimination law, labor law, and current constitutional issues in the law.
Anthony has a long track record of fighting for the equality and dignity of all people. With his husband Waymon Hudson, he formed the LGBT rights group Fight OUT Loud after experiencing a startling death threat aimed at gay people over the Fort Lauderdale Airport intercom system. He also fought side-by-side with other activists as they organized a massive response to the bigoted words of Mayor Naugle of Fort Lauderdale, including holding the largest unity rally at City Hall that Fort Lauderdale had ever experienced, as well as getting Naugle removed from his post on the Tourism Development Council.
"I have always fought for the equality of all people. I have seen firsthand both the damage and the good political leaders can do at every level of government. We must have leaders that not only solve the everyday issues facing our cities, like the failing economy and plunging home prices, but also create an atmosphere of respect and equality that all people can thrive in," Anthony told Bilerico Project.
Help out Anthony's campaign by giving a donation to tide him over these last two weeks of the campaign. Even $5 will pay for a yard sign! Let's see how much cash we can send his way to help him pull out the win! Anthony Niedwiecki in 09!

I know I'm a bit biased because he is my husband, but he will also make an amazing commissioner here in South Florida!
Thanks for supporting a great candidate and a great advocate for our community!

Wait, do we have to start calling him "Anthony Niedwiecki, the Victory Fund endorsed Oakland Park City Commission candidate" or can we keep on calling him "Waymon's husband"?
Haha, if he were a woman and Waymon and Anthony were a straight couple, that question would be really, really sexist. Fortunately, he isn't and they aren't.

You can call him "The Honorable Commissioner"- that's what he makes me call him. I'll be happy being the first lady of Oakland Park. ;)

I just sent in my contribution. I can't think of a better use for the money even though I don't live in Florida. Actually, my partner and I love Florida, and we come down several times a year. We're thinking of moving there at some point in the future. In fact, we'll be there on the day of the election. Are you going to have a victory party?
Good luck. No matter what happens, you have made a positive difference for Oakland Park, Florida, the country and the world.

Thanks for the contribution, Jillian! :)
There will be a victory party, but we're still nailing down the place. We'd love for you and your partner to stop by!
Thanks again!
